Meet ABBYY Lingvo.Pro! 6/9/2011

From the very launch of ABBYY Lingvo Online on August 28, 2000, we have been working to expand and update our online dictionary in order to make it more useful both to language learners and to professional translators.

On May 31, we unveiled ABBYY Lingvo.Pro, a new version of the popular ABBYY Lingvo Online dictionary. The beta version of ABBYY Lingvo.Pro had been available for testing for several months, so some of you will already be familiar with the new website.

• Own a copy of ABBYY Lingvo x5? Get free one-year access to all of your ABBYY Lingvo x5 dictionaries on the ABBYY Lingvo.Pro website!
  Now you can always access your dictionaries online, whether you are at home, at work, or at your friend’s place. Simply type in the serial number of your ABBYY Lingvo x5 into this form, and your dictionaries will become available to you on the ABBYY Lingvo.Pro website.
  Note. To be able to use this bonus, your copy of ABBYY Lingvo x5 must be installed and activated on your computer. The time period during which you can use this bonus depends on your ABBYY Lingvo licence. If you have a time-unlimited licence, you can access your dictionaries online for a period of one year starting on the day of activation. If you have a time-limited licence, you can access your dictionaries online until your license expires.

  On the ABBYY Lingvo.Pro website, you can access over 12.5 million entries in 220 dictionaries created by ABBYY®, ABBYY® Press, Russkiy Yazyk–Media, RUSSO, HarperCollins Publishers, and Oxford University Press.
• Now you can find examples of how a word o phrase is actually used in sentences extracted from fiction, technical publications, legal documents, and online texts
  Ttranslation memory searches will help you select the most appropriate translation, check if a certain construction is actually acceptable in this or that context, or find alternative translations and examples of their use in real-life texts. The TM already contains over 1,000,000 sentences and is constantly growing.

Power, simplicity and ease of use

• New lookup/search facility
  The new search facility allows you to look up words not only in the authoritative dictionaries but also in the translation memory and in dictionaries created by other users. You can also refine your searches by specifying a particular domain or subject, or find phrases that contain a certain word.
• Ability to add your own translations
  Now you can add your own translations into a community-created dictionary directly on ABBYY Lingvo.Pro. Translations are added in real time and become available to other members of the community immediately.
  This feature will be overhauled in the near future to make it even more useful and convenient. For example, you will be able to create your own dictionaries and discuss them with other members of the community and a lot more.
• Lookup history
  Need to revisit your past lookups? As ABBYY Lingvo.Pro logs all your searches, all you need to do is log on to the website, and your lookup history will become available to you.
